Firetender is the return of the Weeping Radish Taproom to Manteo — the town where North Carolina's first microbrewery opened in 1986. Four decades later the legendary brews are pouring again, right where it all began.
Inside the restored Hotel Manteo we serve stone-oven pizzas and hearth-fired skillets alongside Weeping Radish craft beers, killer cocktails and what we think is the area's best top shelf.

Where It All Began: 1986
On July 4, 1986, the Weeping Radish opened in Manteo as North Carolina's first microbrewery.
Founder Uli Bennewitz had come from Bavaria and worked with state legislators to change the law so a brewery could sell its own beer on site. That change started the craft beer movement in this state.
The brewery outgrew Manteo and moved to Grandy, and the original location closed in 2007.
Today the Taproom is back in its original city, here at Firetender.
